At all levels of education, persons with a disability were less than half as likely to be employed than were their counterparts with no disability. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Enhancing community inclusion and employment opportunities

Seeds4Success (S4S) is dedicated to enhancing community inclusion, employment opportunities for our friends and neighbors with disabilities. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or "community profit" as the community profits from our work.  Vashon Island, being accessible only by ferry boat, is somewhat remote for services. S4S was formed to provide a bridge to government disability services and to offer partnering agencies a single point of contact for program outreach.

In the beginning

Our program founders, Lee Kopines and Dr. Dan Kaufman, were inspired to launch S4S after hearing a Vashon Rotary Club presentation by Trillium Employment Services of Auburn, Washington. Concerned about the lack of community employment options for young adults with disabilities, Lee and Dan teamed up with concerned parent, Ulla Cooper, to launch K-12 Ventures (later renamed Seeds4Success) with two service concepts in mind.

From small seeds great things grow

Today, Seeds4Success contracts with the Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the King County Developmental Disabilities Administration, and has partnered with over twenty island businesses on job development for disabled workers. In 2010, we achieved accreditation from CARF International.

We are grateful to the S4S Board of Advisors for their strategic leadership and their commitment to cultivating our goals.

Seeds4Success Mission Statement

"We are for difference:
For respecting difference,
for allowing difference,
for encouraging difference,
until difference no longer
makes a difference."
